Turning Vision into Reality: The Design Journey of a Cozy Up-North Lodge

When a hotel owner in Michigan approached us to redesign key areas of her property, it seemed straightforward: transform a few rooms, the lobby, and atrium to capture the “up north” charm her guests were craving. But when the original design firm failed to deliver the right products, what started as a simple renovation quickly became a creative challenge.

The spaces originally felt cold and uninviting, lacking the cozy, lodge-like atmosphere the owner envisioned. We knew we had to reimagine the design to bring warmth and character to the hotel.

Redesigning with Purpose and Precision

We began by carefully selecting pieces that embodied a rustic, yet sophisticated vibe. Instead of relying on off-the-shelf options, we made strategic adjustments—altering sizes, colors, and fabrics to align with the vision, all while respecting the budget. By customizing elements like furniture and lighting, we were able to elevate the space without inflating costs.

A key element of the redesign was the custom plaid drapery. We created a fabric that became our “room starter,” setting the tone for the entire design. This custom pattern didn’t just define the rooms—it also inspired the custom wallpaper for the lobby, creating a cohesive look that seamlessly tied the spaces together.

The Outcome: A Beautiful, Cost-Effective Transformation

The final result was a hotel that felt every bit as inviting and luxurious as originally planned, but with significant cost savings. By balancing creativity, customization, and budget-conscious decisions, we were able to deliver a one-of-a-kind, warm, and welcoming space that exceeded the client’s expectations.
